Der Bau der Intrige – über Filme, die was machen. Teil 5: Tentative Matters

Tentative Matters

as part of Between Broadcast, a project curated by Marianna Liosi

with videos by Oraib Toukan and Dox Box

The status of moving images and their authority in showing evidences have never been so much in question as they are today. The democratization of images’ creation, thanks to the wider accessibility to the tool of production – portable technological devices- and the channels for distribution – the internet and social networks – have not contributed to provide a clearer understanding of the reality, rather, quite the opposite.

“When Things Occur” by Oraib Toucan and “Citizen with a Movie Camera” series by Dox Box deal in different ways with the emancipatory vs reactionary potential of images in relation with the social, political and economic conditions that produced them and with the gaze looking at them. Furthermore, the videos aim to explore what kind of contribution visual traces are able to provide to the reconstruction and the recollection of the reality.
