Latency is invisible, occurs in secret, a period between event and effect. In latency, the body still appears symptomless, the signal so diffuse that it is not yet readable. Latency causes anxiety, stimulates the imagination, but it also opens up space to delay the reaction, the effect. We have time to breathe or to hold our breath. How can latencies be made readable before they take effect? How can we move our data bodies differently? How can we make imaging devices fantasise, bend surveillance devices? Make the work behind the image visible? How can we work against social latencies and redirect them?
