Pilvi Takala (*1981 in Helsinki) lebt und arbeitet in Berlin. Ihre künstlerische Praxis – meist in der Form von performativen, dokumentarischen Videos – umfasst Deutungen und Interventionen in gesellschaftspolitische Verhältnisse oder soziale Codes spezifischer Gemeinschaften. Ihre künstlerischen Mittel sind subtiler Gesten, unterschwellige Zurückweisung oder fiktionale Narration. Dabei greift Takala oftmals auf flüchtige Handlungsweisen zurück, die zwischen einer „neuen Sprache“ des Widerstands und der Gefahr, dass deren eigentliches politisches Potential übersehen wird, changieren. 2013 gewann sie den mit 7.000 Pfund dotierten frieze Art Prize. Um herauszufinden, was eine Gruppe acht- bis zwölfjähriger Kinder wohl mit diesem Geld machen würde, übergab Takala das Geld an ein Kinder-Komitee und begleitete den Prozess der Aushandlung.

Pilvi Takala lives and works in Berlin. After graduating from the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts in 2006, Takala has continuously attended numerous international exhibitions and festivals. Her solo exhibitions include e.g. Bonniers Konsthall, Stockholm; Kunsthalle Erfurt; Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art, Helsinki; and Sorlandets Kunstmuseum, Norway. Her work has been shown in e.g. MoMA PS1 and New Museum, New York; Palais de Tokyo; Kunsthalle Basel; Witte de With, Rotterdam; and the 9th Istanbul Biennial. Takala won the Dutch Prix de Rome in 2011 and the Emdash Award in 2013. The winning work was presented at the Frieze Art Fair in London. In 2013 she also won the Finnish State Prize for visual arts and was nominated for the Ars Fennica. In 2015 and 2016 Takala’s works was exhibited in La Casa Encendida in Madrid and at Yerba Buena Centre for the Arts in San Fransisco and in the Bucharest Biennal and at Metropolitan Arts Centre in Belfast. A solo exhibition was presented at Centre for Contemporary Arts in Glasgow in April 2016. Her next solo exhibition is coming up at Kunsthal Aarhus in Denmark in June 2016.
